Rushing in to the 21st

After several days of the usual "new hardware/software BS" I'm finally sitting here in the Uptown Espresso that's two blocks right up the street from my place, happily typing this entry on my new (to me) laptop, via the wonders of wi-fi.

Yay me!

It took two extra trips to Re-PC, the last one including giving up on the little USB dongle in favor of a PCMCIA card version of a wi-fi... ummmm... antenna? I got $1.09 back -- go figger, the one that works is the cheaper one -- and I haven't had to do anything but plug it in and fire up the box.

The laptop is a somewhat lesser machine than my desktop -- mainly in the CPU speed department -- but it has many advantages. The major one is portability (duh!). I'm hoping that during those days that I'm at the Pike Place Market and there isn't a customer to be seen for miles I might actually be able to get some other work done.

The "acid test", of course, will be trying it out from said Market. That may be put off for a bit since I may be gone for a short while (I'll find out tomorrow).

Anyways... as all the cool kids in John Brunner's Stand On Zanzibar would say... "I've celebrated my 21st!"
