A different 9/11 anniversary

Those who know me well will know that you can hardly describe me as a dove but maybe, while we're all watching retrospectives on the terror 5 years ago and listening to the partisan ranting from both ends of the spectrum on the subject, we can take a moment to think about the 100th anniversary of "satyagraha," the world’s first large-scale nonviolent resistance movement.

I'm not advocating allowing terrorists -- or any evil folk, from muggers to hypocritical TV evangelists -- to roam free and do their worst, but the prospect of 20 Ghandis sounds pretty good to me.

Think about it.

(hat tip to my friend Brigid for pointing this out)

Ah, wouldn't it be loverly if 'twere possible...

But the difference between Ghandi's opposition (the South African government of the day) and our opposition is that the SA government was not prepared to commit wholesale slaughter for the sake of a bureaucracy gone mad.

A Ghandi-like passive resistance today would simply provide terrorist groups like Hamas, the Taliban, and Hezbollah (the big three -- there are probably more) with free target practise. And they wouldn't be losing any sleep over it, either.

Monkey see, monkey do. To win, you have to behave like them; destroy willy nilly 'til they stop or are done with.

You don't stop people who fart in public by farting in public 'cause it just stinks worse. You nead something other than beans and cabbage to clear the air.

Peace.
