I’ve just put up a sneak preview of a few photos from last Saturday’s shoot by Cathleen Shattuck. I’m currently trying to narrow the field down to ten or a dozen “finalists” and will be posting them for y’all to vote on soon (hopefully within about a week).
I’m very excited about all this, as I’m really wanting to do more solo gigs this year, with special emphasis on house concerts and burlesque shows. (You should be getting a hint at my priorities here.) Since I haven’t had a press kit that was just for me—instead of for a band I was with—for a long time, every step closer is a minor, but thrilling, achievement. If it wasn’t for Ms Cathleen’s generosity, I would never have afforded such excellent photos. (I blow kissies at you, dahlink! Thank you!)
I also want to involve my friends and fans—hey! that probably includes you since you are, after all, reading this!—a lot more in my odd little journey. I hope you’ll take the time to comment on these posts and, of course, vote for your favorite photos.
Credits: As mentioned above, photos by Cathleen Shattuck. Groovy elephant head walking stick courtesy of Acep Hale. Bow Ties by Claudia Kelly. All fezzes (except the faux leopard skin one) by Fez-O-Rama. Leopard skin fez was my very first one and was a gift from my sweetie (from Archie McPhee’s parent company), and she made me the matching leopard skin tie. (Yeah, baby! It’s silk!) Ukulele by Mainland Ukuleles.
This morning I went for my first solo photo shoot in a long time. There are tons of pics out there where I’m with one band or another, but since I have declared 2011 to be the “Year of the Solo Hobbit Stuff,” this was exciting!
It was just me, a couple of my ukuleles, several fezzes, a borrowed walking stick, an elephant goad, and a small skull. I know that sounds odd but, dear reader, unless this is the very first time you’ve run across me, you’re probably unsurprised.
The lovely Ms Cathleen Shattuck took around 300 (yikes!) shots this morning, ably assisted by her sweetie, the dashing Mr. Acep Hale. She’s going to be going through them over the next couple days, culling them down and running the rest through some computer magic.
Then comes the toughest part for me. Choosing a dozen or so candidates for my initial press kit. I’m thinking I’ll leave the final choice up to you, friends and fans. I’ll be putting them up here for a vote.
I spent way too much time researching, installing, un-installing and then, finally, finding the right plug-in to do nice slideshows on my Photos page. Then I spent another couple hours tweaking, changing, grumbling, changing again until at last I have something working!
Only one gallery so far, but there’s more to come. Please do check it out and let me know in the comments whether or not it’s working for you.
(Now on to the next needed bit for the site. I’ll get it flying yet!)
After managing to break my WordPress install so that this version of the site was invisible over the weekend, things are finally coming together, albeit slowly.
The valiant efforts of the terrific support staff at my hosting provider, Seanic.net, restored usability (and visibility!) to the site and I’ve learned a thing or two about WordPress in the meantime, so it’s beginning to look like what I envisioned.
Hang with me, folks! I’ll get there!
Meanwhile… gotta get out and busk a little before the day ages much more.
This has been in the planning stages for way too long. And since I upgraded to PHP 5 on my hosting service, breaking several bits of the old site in the process, this seemed to be a good time to change things around!
I’m now happily running the whole site with WordPress. This is going to make much of my life a lot easier… at least, once I’m caught up. I’ll be working on it a lot more tomorrow but, as of tonight (March 25, 2011), this is very much a work in progress. Several of the pages are empty and others may be re-named, deleted or replaced. Don’t put any links up (except for the base link of howlinhobbit.com) until things settle in.
Hope you enjoy the new look and—eventually—all the new content.
